Urinary Incontinence (Bladder Control)

Urinary Incontinence (bladder control) using Neocontrol and advanced physical therapy techniques and treatments

What is Neocontrol Pelvic Floor strengthening?

NeoControl® Pelvic Floor Therapy System is a non-surgical therapy for the treatment of stress, urge and mixed incontinence. For patients whose incontinence is caused by a weakening of their pelvic floor muscles, NeoControl can offer unique therapeutic benefits. Unlike other therapy options, Neo-Control exercises all of the muscles of the pelvic floor to rebuild strength and endurance, restoring improved bladder control. NeoControl accomplishes this while the patient sits fully clothed in a comfortable chair.

The technology that makes this treatment possible is Extracorporeal Magnetic Innervation, or ExMI™ for short. Cleared by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in June of 1998, NeoControl is the first product to utilize ExMI. The process is similar to Kegel exercises for the pelvic floor. While conventional Kegel exercises or Kegels enhanced by biofeedback techniques can help to restore continence, women often do the exercises incorrectly, incompletely or neglect to do them at all. With NeoControl, the system performs the exercises for the patient, and it performs them more completely and effectively than the patient could do on their own. Thus, the patient learns what a true pelvic floor muscle contraction feels like.

How NeoControl Works:
It's really quite simple. ExMI technology produces highly focused pulsed magnetic fields. To receive treatment, patients simply sit in a chair that allows the therapeutic fields to be easily aimed at the muscles of the pelvic floor that control continence. The pelvic floor muscles contract and relax with each magnetic pulse, which exercises like any other muscle in the body, except the brain is not directing the contraction - NeoControl is. One way to think of NeoControl is as an automatic Kegel exercise machine, at slow and fast contraction speeds.

NeoControl Treatments:
Before receiving NeoControl treatment, a patient needs to be fully examined by a physician to make sure their bladder control problem is the type that can be helped by NeoControl therapy. Once it has been determined that the cause of the incontinence is weakened pelvic floor muscles, NeoControl may be prescribed. Treatments can be performed in the physical therapist's office, while the patient remains in their street clothes.

During treatment, a patient sits in a specially designed chair that has the ExMI technology embedded in the seat. The treatments, which are typically performed twice a week, are painless and take approximately 20 minutes. A complete course of treatment may take eight weeks or more, depending on the condition of the pelvic floor muscles when therapy is started. Scientific studies have shown that rebuilding the pelvic floor muscles with NeoControl is effective in helping patients regain bladder control. In addition, patients treated with NeoControl have reported significant improvements in their quality-of-life. NeoControl treatments have been shown to be effective even when medications have proven unsuccessful.

TSI’s unique approach bladder control:
Therapeutic Solutions, Inc. takes the Neocontrol treatment several steps further to insure optimal improvement of pelvic floor strengthening and urinary incontinence. In addition to the electromagnetic pelvic floor strengthening, TSI incorporates instruction in additional pelvic floor strengthening, lumbar stabilization, postural modifications, aerobic conditioning, stress reduction, breathing exercises, and patient education in exercise and nutrition. This unique program provides far greater results than Neocontrol treatments alone and enhances long-term success to bladder control.

Treatment is approved by Medicare and many other health insurance plans:
As of March 2003 Medicare added Neocontrol pelvic floor strengthening to its approved recipients therapy benefits. To learn more about this program or if your insurance company covers these services just call us at TSI and we will be happy to assist you.
